Mags & I were able to connect after work last week so Marcus could visit the Puppet show once again. We are trying to get in as many games as possible over a short time span so that we can get the rules down and actually play a fast game. As it stands now, we're at about 2-3Hrs for 25ss games. So onto the action...

Scrap Report 3: Collodi v. Marcus @ 25ss
Snake-Eyes and I have really started revving up our Malifaux game play and as a result, we will have not one, but two Malifaux scrap reports this week. This first one is a 25ss game played between myself and Snake-Eyes on his new terrain board from Warzone, which I must say is fantastic for Malifaux.
I should state that while I have found Malifaux a blast to play, I am finding it harder to write reports about due to the interactive game play that is constantly changing the ebb and flow of the game. I am planning on taking a notebook and scribbling a few notes because even with all the photos I take, I can't remember some of the key moments in the game....which also has to do with the fact that I can not even remember all the rules yet.
Okay, on to the scrap report...

State of Magilla's Hobby (Time and Money)
This is not a rant or a tirade; it is a discussion on the state of my hobby and the choices that I am making due to a multitude of factors. The factors range from a new job, family, money, time, and simple good old fun. Like the picture indicates, I have come to one of those forks in life's road and I have had to make a few decisions concerning how I will spend my hobby time and money.

Green Knights: Overview of Two Games and Some Thoughts
A couple of weekends ago (2?), I had the chance to break out the Green Knights and get in a few games as the Ringer at the FLGS and their Battleforce Bash. Due to the fact that the store was giving away a lot of prizes and was not charging an entry fee, it was decided that players would need to earn their top four spots and as a result, the "ringer" army played by me was a fully competitive army; one I have and do take to tournaments.
This caused some after game drama, but that is another story for another time.
As for the games, I had two great games and one was a nail biter until round 5.

Time, Gaming, and Blogging
It seems that Blogger has eaten today's post.
Normally, this would not be a big deal as I would simply hop on the computer and fix the problem.
However, that is no longer an option as my recent graduation with my Master's degree has also netted me a new job that is much more demanding my time. Luckily, we have mobile blogger and smart phones.

Product Review: Fenris Games - Rough Timber Bases
Like most things in my gaming life, I am running behind when it comes to this product review. This unfortunately has become a theme as I transition into my new job and the multitude of responsibilities that it entails.
Anyways, enough of that and back on topic: which is a product review of Fenris Games resin bases; to be more specific, a review of their Rough Timber Bases.

Magilla's Malifaux: 1st Malifaux Crew Painted!!!
So, Malifaux is proceeding at a steady clip for myself and Snake-Eyes. Besides getting in games, I managed to paint an entire crew all by myself....
...first time in a while I have painted an entire army or crew all by myself.
This is greatly aided by the fact that I only had to paint 10 models on resin bases. I am not the greatest painter, but I think that they are solid table top quality....

Malifaux Scrap #2: Kirai v. Marcus @ 25ss
With my new job cutting into my free time, Snake-Eyes and I managed to meet up for a Malifaux game during the week at our favorite FLGS - Thou Shalt Game. Due to an obligation, Snake-Eyes had to leave Early and we were only able to get through four rounds...
...okay, the fact we are new players and relatively slow didn't help at all either.
As we are still both learning, we are sticking with our respective crews as changing crews will not help all that much when you are trying to learn a game.....
...therefore, I had Kirai and Snake-Eyes had Marcus

After Action Report: Green Knights at Kingdom-Con (Part 2)
Okay, after writing up my After Action Report, I noticed that it was insanely long, so I broke it up into two parts.
Part one yesterday, covered my first three games. Part two will cover my last three games and my thoughts on the Green Knights moving forward.

After Action Report: Green Knights at Kingdom-Con (Part 1)
Better late than never at all? I have had this article sitting in a draft status for quite awhile and have just never gotten around to finishing it; with being sick and Malifaux taking off with our gaming group and local community.
However, I guess before it completely become ancient history, I should go ahead and get it posted up...now that I have finished it.
It did turn out longer than I expected, so I had to break it into two seperate posts (1 for today and 1 for tomorrow)
So, without further ado, a wrap-up of my six games at Kingdom-Con and my thoughts and plans moving forward.

Malifaux Faction and Crew Chosen
So, as is normal for me, I have flip-flopped back and forth for several months unable to decide what faction or even crew I wanted to start out with in Malifaux. I have entertained thoughts of Neverborn with Dreamer or Collodi, and Outcasts with Leviticus or Hamelin. However, none of these seemed quite right.

Competitive Play and the Casual Gamer
This past weekend I went
to Kingdom-Con 2012 and participated in the 6 round 40K tournament held by
Reece and the fine crew from Team
Zero Comp/Frontline Gaming. Despite the fact in the past 8 weeks I have
managed to play a whooping 2 games, I was still looking forward to the
tournament and the chances to play 6 games of 40K; quadrupling my games played
in the last 2 months. My performance there taught me some interesting about
both myself and the nature of competitive play.

Magilla Gurilla is going to Kingdom-Con!
Well, as a little reward to myself, I am heading off to Kingdom-Con with Snake-Eyes tomorrow. My thesis was accepted, I am done and graduating! As an extra bonus, I have gotten a new job, which I start this month! Okay, back to War-gaming...

2nd Quarter Hobby Goals
It is that time again, to once again look at what exactly I want to accomplish in my hobbies. My first quarter was very schizophrenic due to my Graduate Studies and my preparation for either further Graduate Studies or a Doctoral program. However, I did manage to get some things accomplished despite my erratic flip-flopping.

Thinking about Malifaux Again...
That is right, Malifaux! It has been a quiet 3 months on the Malifaux front; but that is mainly because both Snake-Eyes and myself have been busy with 40K Escalation League. In addition, we have been having a devil of a time finding any experienced players who can assist us in learning the game...reading a rulebook for me works after I play a game or two....before that it is just gibberish on a page.

Green Templars, Green Knights and the 1st Quarter of 2012
Three months of 2012 have
flown by with only a few shorts days till the first quarter is complete. Looking
back, I have gotten in more 40K that I thought, but it has been in clumps with
much of my time being eaten up by my Graduate program. Those three months have
passed with two RTT’s and two escalation leagues to show for it; not to mention
one of practice games. Not to shabby, but for the most part clusters of games
with large patches of thesis writing and portfolio editing. My first quarter
hobby can be broken down into Green Knights and Escalation League…which works
quite nicely as headings.

Thoughts as the Green Templars Grow
This army was originally envisioned as a way to see how cheaply I could field a Black Templar army. While I am still going to do this, I have now realized that the army needs a few extra pieces and as a result, the cost will be increasing slightly. Originally, the army was going to cost less than $300 dollar; this was going to be done by primarily using the AoBR Space Marines and Terminators. However, like most Gamers, I have been tinkering with the army as I notice shortfalls or problematic match ups. It is a requirement as using just the Assault on Black Reach Marines will keep the army from being truly competitive.

Video Battle Report: Chaos Space Marines vs. Blood Angels
I know it has been quiet on TTW, but we will start out this week with another Video Battle Report.
This time I take out my old Chaos Space Marines to give Snake-Eyes Blood Angels a run through in preparation for a tournament.

Grad School: 5 Weeks till Thesis Submission
Just wanted to give any readers a heads up that for the next 5 weeks this blog might be a little more quiet that usual.
I am on the last 5 weeks of grad school...
...while my Thesis is just about there, I am in the final stages of editing and formatting.
Due to this fact, I will be concentrating on my studies for the next five weeks as I wrap up Grad school and prepare for my Doctoral studies.
I do hope to have some pictures up by end of the week of my first squad of Green Templar Terminators.
As well as a battle report mid-week.
Well, back to the books....

Weekly To-Do List: 3/4/2012 - Still Painting
Last week was not a good hobby week. I was suppose to paint a full squad of Terminators, but with the onset of the Flu......well, I did not make that goal. I did manage to get them base coated, over brushed, and dry brushed for the primary color; I even managed to get gold on most of the chest eagles and skulls....but sadly, I did not finish up the squad. I have a few evenings free at the start of this week, so I have high hopes of finishing up the terminator squad and moving on to the first crusader squad. Okay, this week looks like this:
- Paint 5 man terminator squad (finish)
- Paint 7 man crusader squad
- Assemble 5 man terminator squad
Hopefully, I will have pictures up later this week of the first finished squad....as long as the flu bug doesn't make a return visit.
