Another year and another challenge I let my Partner-in-Crime talk me into:
I've talked about this over the last few posts about how my last attempt at the "challenge" was a FAIL in most EPIC fashion. I spent close to 1k on an Grey Knight/Inquisition Army, painted about 500pts of it and then lost the motivation to paint altogether after just 3 short months. A couple months later, most of what I bought went the way of a trade to Magilla Gurilla for his Deathwing Army.. and his infamous Green Knights were born.. Glad I could help you there, Mags :)
Skip forward to this year.. since my motivation to paint ebbs & flows like the tides, there was no way I was going to purchase another 2,000pts worth of plastic in the slim chance I may actually stay committed to this thing to the end. So instead of an all new purchase, I decided on just creating an "expansion" force to my current Eagle Warriors Army that could stand alone on it's own.. since it has to be a legitimate 1850pt force to meet the Challenge requirements. I took this to another level by forcing myself to create an army 100% out of models I already owned. To this end, "The Forgotten Ones" expansion force was born... but who will lead this ragtag force you ask??...

| THIS GUY RIGHT HERE!! Sort Of... |
By creating a Master of the Forge list, it allows me to use all the Dreads (6 of them) I still have left over from my GK fiasco the last time around and I have 2 AoBR Squads that I picked up on the cheap many moons ago. That seemed like a solid starting point for a good list. After playing around with good ol' Army Builder for a few days, this is the first incarnation I've decided to run with..
Master of the Forge w/ Conversion Beamer, Power Sword, Digital Weapons
5x Scouts w/ Telion Upgrade & 4 Sniper Rifles
Thunderfire Cannon
Aegis Defense Line w/ Icarus Lascannon
10x Tactical Squad w/ Missile Launcher & Flamer
(Sgt w/ Combi-Melta, Power Sword & Melta Bombs)
10x Tactical Squad w/ Missile Launcher & Meltagun in a Drop Pod
(Sgt w/ Combi-Melta, Power Sword & Melta Bombs)
2x Ironclad Dreadnought w/ Heavy Flamer, Chainfist, 2x Hunter Killer Missiles &
Ironclad Assault Launchers in a Drop Pod
3x Dreadnought with 2x Twin-Linked Autocannons
StormTalon Gunship w/ Twin-Linked Lascannon
All this comes in exactly at 1850 and I already own everything in it except for Sgt Telion for the Scout Squad. Since I have an extreme dislike for the Thunderfire Cannon model I decided to proxy a FW Imperial Guard Thudd Gun and will be using the FW Valthex model as my Master of the Forge. I already have a regular clamshell Techmarine to man the Thudd Gun "Thunderfire Cannon" so we are all good there.

Will this list be competitive in a tournament setting??
meh.. probably not so much.
Does it shore up some weaknesses in my Eagle Warriors Army??
uuhh.. Yeah, who thinks Dreadnoughts suck in a bike army??..
Will this army cost me a thousand dollars in GW Plastic Crack??...
Nope, I'm shelling out $16 bucks at the most for the Telion model.. and then I've got all of it!! Who's laughing now :)
As far as progress goes, my January commitment for the Hobby Challenge is to paint my Fortification, which means that ADL and Lascannon need to find there way to my paint station. As I was a little late to this party, I figured the ADL would be the fastest thing I could paint since I have only a little more than 3 weeks to get it done. I'm a notoriously slow painter with a motivation problem so quick and easy for January is the way to go. So far I've learned that painting white really... REALLY.. is a time consuming process and I need to stay focused to get this thing done.
Lucky there are 6 of us from Thou Shalt Game that took the Challenge up together so there are bragging rights on the line now.. that should help with my moto problem. Here are a few shots of what I've been working on.
Here they are in all their glory!! :)
2 of the small sections done; 2 more small and all 4 long sections PLUS the Lascannon to go...
Guess I better get back to it.
Until Next Time,
Snake Eyes

I dig those two-tone Aegis defense lines. It's good to see someone else go for a scheme that isn't just plain camo...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment!! I really like the way they've turned out and am motivated to finish up the entire ADL.. I'm really not liking the painting of white though..
DeleteYeah, white can be a real pain, but the overall effect works well. It's worth the effort. :)
