Weekly To-Do List: 2/18/2012 - The Old Switcheroo

As a father of four, a full time Master's student, and someone who also works 40 hours a week, I have found that the best laid plans often come unraveled not only by unexpected changes, but also overestimating the amount of free time available to someone during the course of any given week. The later problem has caused me to reevaluate my army for the escalation league. Throw in the fact that we are moving into a bigger house end of April and the fact that my Thesis is also due this semester and I had the makings of a big fat fail.



Instead, I have asked my fellow Escalation League members for permission to switch armies and they have graciously allowed me to switch to and army that I should have no trouble finishing in 6 months. Even starting out almost two full months behind the rest of the guys, the fact that this army has less than half of the model count of my Tyranids - and that is before adding in the models I would have to paint for the Tervigon spawns; 3 Tervigon equals a lot of spawns.
So, I have switched to a power armor army that I can incorporate into my new "Green Marines" or "Green Knights" or I am using one paint scheme because I do not want to have to keep painting more vehicles and common troopers.

That is right, Black Templars....or in my case, Green Knight Templars. The question begs answering...Why Black Templars?


For me the answer was a simple one: economics. I have been collecting Assault on Black Reach Terminators and Tactical Squads for awhile; actually, they were suppose to be part of a Master of the Forge Dreadnought army that has since morphed into my Green Knight Acolyte and Dread build (or more specifically, I stole the idea from Neil as it was better than my MoTF build). Anyways, by making a Black Templar force, I could use up the AoBR models and keep the out of pocket expense low for the army.

Thinking about this concept, gave me a great idea; I could not only chronicle my hobby progress for the escalation league, but I could also take the opportunity to try and field an entire 2K army for as inexpensively as possible. Thus was born the Wee Budget Green Knight Templar army. I will post more about this army tomorrow...
...but for now, it is enough to know that the Tyranids went back in their large Rubbermaid bin and will wait till a time when I have more time on my hands.

This week, I am behind the 8-ball. I am two months behind on league now due to the switch...but having said that, my 1K commitment for next month is smaller than my 500K commitment for Tyranids. 
With league meeting next Saturday, I have to get my butt in gear and assemble and prime the following models.

• 5 Storm Bolter and Power Fist AoBR Terminators, two with Cyclone missile launchers
• Metal Emperor's Champion
• 5 AoBR Marines: 4 with Bolters and 1 with Missile Launcher
