Magilla's Green Knights!

Yes, you heard that right, Green Knights!
No, I am not talking about the famous Green Knight from the Arthurian Legends.
Instead, I am talking about my personal take on power armored armies; or at least a paint scheme that will encapsulate all powered armored armies under one umbrella with a minimum amount of cost to change from one codex to another.

After all, there is only one color of Marine and it is green!
Despite the minor slip back to my Marine Corps days, that saying played a big part in my decision to go for a single paint scheme that could be used across the breadth and scope of power armored armies; that and the fact that my favorite color was green.
In the recent years, I have had a blue army, a red army, a black army, and a few primered armies (yep, lazy painter over here!). The problem has always been that when I switch from one army to the next to keep things fresh, I have to paint or have painted a whole new army each and every time. Like most people, I do not want to keep spending money on armies if their is a better, more intelligent method.
The question now becomes what power armored army to choose for my first Green Marine force...
When I was first getting back into 40K, one of the armies that really interested me was  Blackmoor's Witchhunters . I liked the fact he was able to mix and match units into the army and really give it the feel of an Inquisitor using whatever minions of the Imperium were present.
At the time, I decided to go ahead and play the Tyranids that I already owned instead of buying a new army, but I always came back to that army as one that looked fun to play......an Inquisitorial force.
My personal favorite units from Space Marine Armies are Terminators and Dreadnoughts. I have been playing a Deathwing army for awhile, so I have gotten to play a lot of one of my favorite units. However, I have not played with Dreadnoughts for awhile, so I am itching to play with some of them.
For a long time, I had been messing around with a Master of the Forge army from Codex: Space Marine. However, I could never quite get a combination that I was happy with...
...enter Codex: Grey Knights.
The Grey Knights allow me to combine two concepts/wants into one army. I can have my Dreadnoughts and I can have an Inquisitorial force that has whatever units I want (okay - within the parameters of the Codex) mixed up into the army. This appeals to me as I can have flak armor, carapace armor, power armor and terminator armor all mixed into the army with tanks and other vehicles...not Space Marine, not IG...a hybrid.
Speaking of tanks and referring back to my Goals for 2012, I realize that my strongest personal performances came when I was playing a mechanized force; while I like the concept of an all foot army, I seem to play better when I am play a mechanized army.
Now, I am not going to even try and hide the fact that the basis for my current force was pulled directly from Neil of the 11th Companies army he used at NOVA 2011. While I will be using different elements in my Henchmen Squads, the idea and premise for the army are copied from his army...
...imitation is the greatest form of flattery right???
My initial force is pretty simple and straight forward. While I would really like to mess around with some of the more interesting options in the henchmen list like Weaponsmiths and Psykers, I have decided to start with a meat an potatoes build and build on it from there as needs dictate.
Coteaz is the basis of the army as he unlocks henchmen as a troop choice which will allow me to field more dreadnoughts.
A librarian is next because I really want a psychic hood in the army and he really seems to me to be the swiss army knife with his variety of psychic powers and gadgets.
Henchmen and Death Cult Assassins are next and form the troops of the army. Neither are great on the assault - both are better when used defensively as a nice counter punch...this will definitely lead to me having to change my play style.
A single Chimera and 5 Razorbacks are the transports in the army. All the Razorbacks are starting out as Psybacks as massed Str 6 shooting can really hurt.
3 Venerable and 3 regular Dreadnoughts form the elites and heavy support respectively. These guys are the back bone of the army and will be doing a lot of the hard work.
Here is the army in all its yet to be painted glory. It is a return to my Angels of Vengeance mechanized roots and the "neutral" paint scheme will mean I can use the vehicles for other power armor armies in the future.
This means that I will be selling the beautiful Angels of Vengeance Army that Big Jim painted up for me. The army has been fun to play and I will be a bit sad to see it go, but I just do not have the space for 4 armies..plus Malifaux.
I will be putting the army up on ebay in the next week or two, but if anyone is  interested in:

  • Belial
  • Terminator Librarian
  • Command Terminator Squad to include Apothecary, Banner, Cyclone, all 5 w/TH&SS
  • 3 Squads of Deathwing with Cyclone and 5 TH/SS
  • 5 Squads of Deathwing with Cyclone, 1 Storm Bolter and Chainfist, and 4 w/ TH&SS
  • 3 Typhoon Speeders with Multi-Meltas

  • Attack bike with Multi-melta
